Product Specific Questions:

Product of USA:

How much potassium does one serving contain?

190 mg of Potassium per 40 gram serving.

What is Buckwheat?

Buckwheat is a seed related to rhubarb. It may be purple to gray in color.

Is this considered a whole grain product?

Yes

Can I add other ingredients to my pancakes?

Up to 1/2 cup of favorite fruits, nuts, or seeds may be added. Dried fruits should be soaked first.

Can I make other things with this mix?

Yes, we have several recipes available using this mix in cooked or baked goods.

What if my mix is too thick or too thin?

Add additional mix if it is too thin. If it is too thick, add extra liquid (1 tablespoon at a time until the desired texture is achieved.)

Why are my pancakes tough?

You may have over mixed them. Excess stirring can cause the pancakes to be tough.

Does the leavening have aluminum in it?

No

What is Dextrose?

Dextrose is a sweetener and it is corn based. Dextrose is made from starchy plants -- primarily corn (and less commonly wheat or rice). It helps dough to rise and brown and can also extend the shelf-life of packaged foods.

What is monocalcium phosphate?

Monocalcium phosphate is used as a leavening agent. Leavening agent is a substance used in batters and doughs, which causes a foaming action that softens the finished products. It is used in baking powders, baking mixes for cakes, in cookies, doughnuts, energy powders and soft drinks. It is used in canned fruits and vegetables like canned potatoes and tomatoes, since it provides calcium that is useful in maintaining firmness of these fruits and vegetables. It is also a food additive which preserves flavor of the food and also enhances its appearance and taste.

What are the health effects of monocalcium phosphate?

Monocalcium phosphate has calcium and phosphorus which helps in maintaining strong bones and teeth. It is said to be helpful in preventing colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer occurs when the cells in the lining of the large intestine begin to multiply abnormally fast. According to research in Oregon State University a decreased rate of colorectal cancer has been noticed in people who consume large amounts of monocalcium phosphate. It also aids in the proper functioning of nervous system by allowing the healthy production and function of neurotransmitters that help the nerves signal each other.

Not enough is known about monocalcium phosphate to evaluate it for consumption during pregnancy.
