Product Specific Questions:

Product of USA:

1 cup of flour is 120 grams

Is this a whole grain?

No, Soybeans are legumes.

Is this raw?

Yes

Can I toast it?

Yes. Place in one layer on a cookie sheet and put in a 250 degree oven. Stir and remove when an odor is noticed.

How is this soy flour different than other soy flour?

This is defatted soy.

How is that done?

It is chemically defatted with no residue remaining. There is no fermentation.

What chemical is used in the defatting process?

Our defatted Soy Flour is defatted using Hexane- according to the supplier this is the typical chemical used to defat soy flour. No hexane remains in the final product and the company performs residual testing to ensure that there is none present in the end product.

Has it been heat treated?

Yes, it has been minimally heat treated.

Has it been fully heat treated to reduce the trypsin inhibitor level that would work for bees?

It would need to be further heat treated being consumed by the bees, humans and animals of any kind. It will cause digestion problems if it isn’t.

How is it different than regular soy flour?

It has a higher protein content than whole soy flour.

How do I use it?

Do not use more than 1/3 of the total flour as soy in a recipe. Mix it with other flour or flours for best results. Reduce the oven temperature by 25 degrees and increase the baking time by 5 minutes.

Why does it need to be blended with other flours?

All soy flour has natural sugars and protein which cause it to brown quickly.

My soy flour looks yellow. Is that normal?

Yes

 Is your soy flour fermented?

 No it is not fermented.

Why does my soy flour smell funny?

Soy flour should have a strong grassy odor. It is a legume.

Can I fry with it?

We do not recommend using it by itself. It works best when blended with other flours. It browns very quickly.

Can I use this in a bread machine?

Yes, but it is best blended with other flours.

If I store my flour in the freezer, what do I do before using it in a recipe?

It is best to bring all ingredients to room temperature before use, unless

otherwise specified in the recipe.

Why does it need to be room temperature?

Because cold ingredients may adversely affect the yeast performance.
